Routine EEG

If you are scheduled for a routine EEG, the entire process may take an hour. The technician will attach 22 electrodes to monitor your brainwave activity for about 20 to 30 minutes. During this time, you may be asked to close your eyes and to breathe deeply. The technician may flash lights at your eyes while they are shut. Once the procedure is finished, a neurologist will interpret the test. The results will then be delivered to your referring provider.

Our Testing Process

During a ambulatory EEG, the technician will perform the same connection process used for routine EEGs. The connection process takes about an hour and a half to two hours. During this time, the technician will explain the details of the test to you. The ambulatory EEG can run for up to five days, but physicians typically order three-day tests. This test is monitored with a video camera so doctors can see how abnormal brain waves relate to a patient's physical symptoms, in order to better confirm a diagnosis.

Once it has been completed, the video EEG will be digitally analyzed and a registered technician will score the test by looking for abnormal brainwave activity. Finally, a board-certified neurologist will interpret the test. Since a large amount of data will be reviewed, results are sent to your physician five to seven days after the test is completed.
